Wipe the brass and the shade

Clean it with a gentle wipe

A soak is wrong here. Wipe the brass and coated shades with a soft dry cloth, and keep water away from the sockets.

Skip bleach and let it mellow

The brushed surface wears evenly if you skip bleach and scratchy pads. Raw brass is supposed to deepen gently with air and touch.

Wipe it only when cool

Before you wipe, switch the power off and let the bulbs cool. This is not a place for shower spray or standing water.
