Lampe de gras is a French word that literally means "lantern of grease". It refers to a type of pastry that is made with lard, sugar, and eggs. The dough is shaped into a round, flattened on one side, then folded in half over the filling.
Lampe de gras can be eaten as an individual pastry or cut into smaller pieces and served as part of a dessert. It has been around since the Middle Ages and was originally made only during the Christmas season.
